Get off your butt!……Says Leo Babauta in his blog “Zen Habits” and he continues with “even the most motivated of us — you, me, Tony Robbins — can feel unmotivated at times. In fact, sometimes we get into such a slump that even thinking about making positive changes seems too difficult.”
I’m sure we all have been faced with the need to change… Leo uses exercise as an example but I feel his strategies work with any project that has been looming over our head like a black cloud for a period of time!
After moving 5 (!) times last year I settled in Pagosa Springs, CO, and moved in with my boyfriend who has been a bachelor for the majority of his life. Wow! Can you even begin to imagine? “Honey I love you, but what are we going to do with all your junk?” JUNK!?!?!?!?! Yes, my beloved STUFF was a black cloud over our heads, and – believe it or not – doing Parelli helped me to sit back and assess the situation – and wait. My stuff ended up in the storage unit for the last year. At some point, I had to get off my butt and address the issue, which was not such an easy thing to do. We both had to part with things and strong opinions on how to go about it. I’m happy to report that we do have a plan now that is slowly but surely taking shape through action. I’ll let you know more about it next week…
Meanwhile, I’d love to hear from you how you mastered positive change!

Thanks Petra for having a “pick of the week”
I also appreciate you stopping by and commenting on my blog. It’s nice to be surrounded by such a great Parelli community even if a lot of it is virtually.
I am the ultimate procrastinator and had a serious “pile” issue, and have found by just eating one bite at a time, I can fix it somewhat, I started by just saying “i will just keep the kitchen table clear for a week” then I manage that I will add another surface. Today if it rains I will clear out one drawer. Same with my horses, too tired to ride, I will go out and just do one game particularly. It certainly isn’t fool proof given the clutter and lack of time and energy , and sometimes the cool catalogues encroach on my table, but I have at least started to get a grip on it
Being a procrastinator by nature I used to let things such as preparing for winter just sneak up and bite me. This year I took the initiative and made a list and here I am with just a couple things left to do and pretty much ready for whatever winter will bring.
Part of what helped get me “off my butt” was becoming focused – mmmm sound familiar. Yes, taking one thing at a time and doing what needs to be done and not stressing over the whole list. Funny, when you take just one project, do it and scratch it off your list you will soon find the list will be completed and you can then enjoy life – horses – and you won’t go “oh s—! when that first snow storm hits.
I even sealed some areas of my horse trailer so it won’t leak today – a project I’ve been putting off for 3 yrs. And all it took was breaking down, buying the supplies and getting out there to do it. One less thing on my list. Yeah!!!!
Oh boy…don’t I know the “too much stuff” thing. It does sort of hang over you, like a cloud. I’m selling lots of mine (hoping to accumulate enough for a saddle!), but some of it has emotional attachments to it. Those are the things that are hardest to let go of.
My horses helped me to find my way to positive change. They never let me lie to myself, them or anyone else. Once I was honest with myself, it was easier to stay motivated, to keep getting back up and get on with it.
I couldn’t access the BLOG you listed. Kept getting the “Gnarly dude” page.
Nancy, laughing at the way things go
Nancy, thank you for your comment. We fixed the link and it should work now!
