A Chat in Somerset

David Lichman, 5-Star Parelli Professional, sent this great video and introduction to Parelli Central, hoping we’d be able to use it somehow. We decided that the Central Blog would be a great way to share it, so here you go. We hope you enjoy it!

While teaching in the UK, I was fortunate to be hosted by Sam Warren, her mom Jo, and her step-dad Michael. Somerset is a charming area, and Michael is a country vet with his own practice, Black Rock Veterinary Services. Michael brews his own beers and ciders, and serves them up in a mini-pub right at the house, called “The Charity Arms.” They lovingly call it “the only pub in England where the beer is free!”

Jo has over 50 years as a BHS-certified trainer. She told me this story one night over dinner, and I asked her to retell it for the camera. She’s witty, and the story of her first success “doing Parelli” is quite humorous to start. As she continues, her true dedication to the horses and her willingness to change 50 years of habits is exposed, and it’s quite touching.

And, of course, Michael chimes in at the end with his tuppence worth!

Enjoy,

David

Wonderful! Thank you for sharing. I wrote in my notebook Jo’s quote “more powerful without using power, more forceful without using force and enlightened”. Beautifully said! Way to go!

That was awesome!!! Jo, you are a magnificent character and how amazing that you were ‘willing’ to change. That is the key for us all, to just be willing and open to new ideas. Thank you for your honest and candid portrayal of your life experience. And, David, thank you for sharing this with us all. A story like this would surely make Pat and Linda very proud indeed!

I love that phrase that when you have taken that step forward you can never go back! Those people who have done it the “other” way for most of their lives and then have the courage to take that enormous leap of faith have to be admired the most!

Great to hear your story Jo, so thanks for sharing.

It sometimes, really is an awakening when you can see how a program really work then appropriately use it yourself and rellish the outcome. As your awareness grows and you can self experience the benefits of this wonderful Parelli Program this is when you start a life of “never ending self improvement” and apply it to all facets in your life and – you never go back.

All the best.

Great story Jo. After many, many years of being a traditional horseperson I too found out how special the Parelli methods are.

This was awesome!! The very idea that someone with 30, 40, 50 years of traditional horse training experience could take that step forward and “never go back” is so heartening.

Thanks for sharing this video!

And another one lines up on the Parelli camp!! I’ve gone from being a BHSII for over 25 years ‘training’ horses to total Parelli where everything is done FOR the horse instead of TO the horse!
Aint it GREAT!!
