Bio of Jolene McDowell

One day about 7 years ago, my old farm boy husband came home and said, “Honey, I need a retirement project and I miss horses. Can we get some?” I said, “Well, I’m a city girl, I don’t know a thing about them, but sure.” He said, “Good, cuz they’re in the front yard.” I let him do his thing for about a 6 months. I was so afraid of them I wouldn’t even go in their stalls to feed them. But he kept asking, so I decided to take lessons. On the first day of my first lesson I asked the teacher, “I don’t want to just ride horses, I want to know how they think. Can you teach me that?” The teacher literally glazed over, then continued on as if I hadn’t spoken. The next week, new teacher, I said the same thing “I don’t want to learn to just ride. I want to learn how horses think. Can you teach me that?” same response. Third teacher, when asked the same question, got a big grin on her face. She said “Just a minute”, ran into the office and came back with Parelli, Level 1. She said, “I think this is what you’re looking for. Take it home, let me know next week.” Of course, it was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I still can’t get enough of Parelli. |
